Brett is a litigation lawyer with over thirty years' experience in assisting clients with commercial and other disputes in the Federal, Supreme and District Courts. He has managed and conducted large scale commercial litigation matters including class actions as well as equity, trade practices, partnership, corporate and estate matters.
Brett assists clients by identifying the legal issues that are likely to arise in their matters, by effectively managing their disputes and by identifying the strengths and any weaknesses, in order to maximise the chances of success or a negotiated outcome. Brett performs with discipline and industry and has been recognised for his professionalism and excellence by his peers at a national level. Brett is able to communicate effectively with a wide array of clients about complex legal, factual and procedural issues, having worked successfully on diverse matters including those involving:
fiduciary duties, including director's duties;
property ownership disputes;
contractual disputes;
trusts;
financial planning advice;
product liability;
misleading or deceptive conduct;
banking;
shares and options trading;
insolvent transactions; and
contested wills and family provision claims.
Brett has successfully worked with both larger organisations and small, as well as individuals, trustees, administrators and third-party funders. His experience working both for and against large, medium and small law firms in matters that often involve multiple stakeholders, has given him the skills and insights needed to take on a wide array of litigious matters.
Brett has a Master of Laws from Sydney University and Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of New South Wales. He is a Law Society of NSW Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation. Brett has also been recognised at a National level in Doyles Guide 2022 and 2023, as one of Australia's leading class action lawyers.
Away from work Brett enjoys dining out, small bars, attending concerts and keeping fit at the gym. A keen traveller, Brett has toured extensively including through Australia, Europe, South East Asia and South America. He also enjoys his rural property, inspecting his cattle and sheep and enjoying the greenery.
